If you deliver or make training, you’ve heard people say, “This training sucks!” Heck, you may have taken some training and said those very words yourself, under your breath of course. To say that out loud would be rude, right? This video post is all about The More You Learn where we tell stories about the importance of well-crafted instruction for adults.

Find ways to create meaningful learning experiences. Training is temporary. Learning lasts forever.

This video was edited in Premiere Pro and subtitled using the free version of Kapwing.

Trained to Learn – The More You Learn (series)

I have this friend.

Let’s call them Terry.

Terry was in charge of training and development at their company. They hated their LMS. Who doesn’t am I right?

And, they were tired of listening to the complaining.

People would say:

This training sucks.

Why does it have to be so boring?

This is so outdated!

Not cool!

I knew Terry was struggling, so I asked, What are you doing to improve learning in the flow of work? Do you know about performance support?

Hah! They said.

I can’t add anything to my stressed budget!

I said, well I’m not selling anything additional.

What if that were your budget?

What if you looked at it a different way?

What if you thought about training as if it were learning, I asked.

They blinked, looked at me side-eyed.

I know. It’s a lot!

Being aware of learning instead of training is step one.

Companies that create learning experiences instead of going through the training motions, well they create learning environments that help Terry do their job and make everyone’s workplace more fulfilling!

And, it will help the company prosper too!

And that is pretty cool!

O-H!

Peace!
