Figuring out how to make a change in an organization is not easy. When that organization is focused on training, and people are constantly complaining it’s even more difficult. You can be like Brian. Use a learning “scientific” method to improve training so that it becomes learning. You can find ways to create meaningful learning experiences. As I’ve said, training is temporary. Learning lasts forever.

This video was edited in Premiere Pro and subtitled using the free version of Kapwing.

Hi! I’m Chris Karel from the Learning Carton! I’m on a mission to help YOU make better learning videos. And I’m here to help you use those videos to create better learning experiences.

The “Scientific” Method – The More You Learn (series)

I have this friend.

Let’s call him Brian.

Brian was at his third training job and finally, it was the leadership role he was looking for.

When he took over, his team was busy making content. They were just trying to keep up every single day

and he was drowning in emails with the same message over and over. “This is the way we’ve always done it”

(SIGH) – he was frustrated.

So one sunny day, he and I were having an iced coffee on a gorgeous summery afternoon.

He said, “Chris how am I supposed to get everyone on the same page? “

I smiled, and said, “You need a scientific method.”

He looked at me and was like, “You mean a trifold board and test tubes and construction paper.”

(chuckle laughs) “No, no, no, not that method. I’m talking about a learning science method like ADDIE, only updated.”

“Like, what,” he asked me. “The method, Brian, where you ask questions to analyze the business need and get everyone on the same page.

Then you map out all of your existing content, then write a learning strategy that will help everyone succeed.

Create a calendar and then work that plan with metrics to make sure you know how you’re doing at every step of the plan.

“Do you have a template?” He asked.

See, this was five years ago, Brian’s company now creates learning experiences instead of training “the way it had always been done”

And that is pretty darn cool!

Peace!
