The lecture mission is one I choose to accept. I have made it my mission to teach people how to make and use video for learning purposes. In this case, I’m focused on the lecture, one of six types of learning or educational videos. In this video post, I’ll tell you why a lecture video is a valuable learning tool.

This video was edited in Camtasia and subtitled using the free version of Kapwing.

Hi! I’m Chris Karel from the Learning Carton! I’m on a mission to help YOU make better learning videos. And I’m here to help you use those videos to create better learning experiences.

UNKNOWN VOICE:
Surprise!

VOICE:
Your Mission… Should you choose to accept it Is to teach people how to make and use video for learning purposes, most notably convince them why a LECTURE video is valuable.

As always, should you or any member of your Learning Carton team be caught or commented upon the secretary of BAT – boring a$$ training will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

Good luck Chris!

Listen up

A Lecture video features an instructor on screen or an instructor’s voice heard narrating a visual slide deck presentation (such as PowerPoint). It is the most common type of video for learning because it’s so dang, simple!

Lecture videos are often live recordings that are rarely edited.

VOICE:
Chris, your time is up!

However, the best versions (Chris) of this format utilize a smooth edit between the speaker and full-screen images of the slides.

These are typically long (30, 60, 90 min), and typically covers

VOICE:
Time to pay the piper

…an entire lecture or presentation.

VOICE:
Time’s up Chris!

[Cut to Chris tied up]

CHRIS
OK – Tell no one about this, I mean seriously,

Seriously, tell everyone. Or don’t

VOICE:
Time’s up Chris! scary-not-scary laugh

WOMP!

THUD!

CHRIS
(muffled laughing)
All right, tell everybody. And I mean everybody! Ain’t nothing gonna stop me from making excellent learning videos!

How do you use LECTURE videos to help people learn?

And until next time, peace.
