Scenario-based learning places the learner in an authentic situation that is most like their real work life and asks them to make decisions. Scenarios provide an opportunity for the learners to show what they learned in your training program.

ANDREA
Whichever answer Chris chooses, scenario-based learning would provide coaching feedback to help him learn. A correct answer like “Plan & Establish Expectations” moves him to the next decision point. An incorrect answer offers him an alternative scenario which leads to failure.
CHRIS
Say what? I don’t want to fail.
ANDREA
I know but if we don’t fail in training we won’t learn how to act when we are not in training.
CHRIS
Hmmm. If I just get the wrong answer. It’s going to tell me what’s right.
ANDREA

Good point Andrea! It’s also a good idea in scenario-based learning to give our learners plausible wrong answers so the choices they make are rooted in authentic scenarios they may face on the job.
