It feels great to complete a draft of a learning video. The reward of seeing your ideas and hard work come together in one cohesive package is sweet!  You’re not done yet! You need feedback. Use Vimeo Review to make this process easy-peezy-lemon-squeezy!

Collecting feedback on videos can be tedious. Reviewers have to write down timecodes on paper or a spreadsheet and try to communicate exactly what part of the video they really liked or wanted to see changed. For me, the video creator, sifting through feedback from multiple reviewers was even more tedious.

Thanks to Vimeo Review, gathering feedback on a video has never been easier! In this post, I’ll talk about what Vimeo Review is and show you how to use it for your learning video projects.

Before you jump right into Vimeo Review, check out my post on how to solicit good feedback. Even a powerful tool like Vimeo review can’t help you unless you know how to ask for actionable feedback.

What is Vimeo Review?

Vimeo Review is an amazing feature for Vimeo Pro and Business members. You can upload your video and share a secure “review” link with anyone from whom you want to solicit feedback. The reviewers don’t even need to have Vimeo accounts to use this system, which is great when you’re working with clients or large teams.

Through Vimeo Review, your reviewers can add time-coded comments right in the video. As they watch, they can click on the specific part of the video they are commenting on – whether it’s a graphic, actor, transition, etc. and leave a comment.

How to Use Review Pages  – VIDEO

How do you use Vimeo Review?

First, you finish editing your video. Then, upload it to Vimeo. Once it’s uploaded, you can access the review page link by selecting the “review” button on the right side of the video edit page. Then, all you have to do is copy that link and send it to your reviewers! Anyone who has the link will be able to make comments, so that’s where consolidation of feedback is key.

Make sure your reviewers are on the same page or ask someone to be The Consolidator. (Fun video about consolidating feedback).

You can find the feedback by looking in the feed on the right side of the page, organized by time-code on the video. When you click on the comment, it will take you to the part of the video related to the comment. You can also click on the white marks on the play bar and the related comment will show as highlighted. When there’s a lot of feedback clouding the feed, you can also click “hide notes” to hide the feed and focus on the video. Even when the feed is hidden, you can still leave comments by clicking on the video.

You and your reviewers can reply to each comment right there on Vimeo! Do this by clicking on the “reply” button right on the comment. It’s also handy that you can download a CSV file with all of the comments and replies to stay organized.

When items are taken care of, you can click the gray checkmark at the top of each comment to resolve it. To un-resolve it, click the check-mark again.

Where does it fit in the ADDIE process?

You can use Vimeo Review in the “Develop” part of the ADDIE process. First, you’ll analyze and design the video, and then you will actually shoot and edit your video in the development phase. Once you get a completed rough cut (same as a rough draft) of your video, send it for review to your stakeholders or a friend/colleague if you are DIY-ing it but want some objective feedback. Then, go back and make the changes you need to improve the video.

Once you have a new version incorporating all the feedback, send it back out to review and collect that final feedback. Make those tweaks and then BOOM, you have yourself a completed learning video!

Summary

Vimeo Review is game-changing when it comes to getting feedback on learning videos. You can leave very precise comments regarding specific parts of the video, which saves a lot of time and hassle. Feedback in instructional design projects (especially videos!) is super important to make sure you effectively improve your learners’ knowledge, skills, and behaviors. As you know, I’m all about that KSB!
