The scenario mission is one I choose to accept. I have made it my mission to teach people how to make and use video for learning purposes. In this case, I’m focused on the scenario and simulation video, one of six types of learning or educational videos. In this video post, I’ll tell you why a scenario and simulation video are valuable learning tools. It’s all about behavior modeling.

This video was edited in Camtasia and subtitled using the free version of Kapwing.

Hi! I’m Chris Karel from the Learning Carton! I’m on a mission to help YOU make better learning videos. And I’m here to help you use those videos to create better learning experiences.

The Scenario Mission

INT CHRIS’ HIGHRISE HIDEOUT

Chris is changing channels when the screen goes black. R2R appears on TV.

VOICE:
Your Mission… Should you choose to accept it Is to teach people how to make and use Scenario or Simulation videos.

As always, should you or any member of your Learning Carton team be caught or commented upon, the BAT secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions?

Good luck Chris, you are going to need it.

This message will self-destruct in five seconds.

Chris runs athletically bounding over stones.

The BAT, it’s on to me.

A scenario video is where actors play roles to demonstrate correct behaviors in the workplace. Modeling proper behavior is the only kind of scenario video you should create.

Showing what “not to do” is the wrong approach, even if you use humor.

VOICE
There’s nowhere to run!

From birth, we are observational learners. If we are shown improper behavior, someone will try to replicate the bad behavior.

Model the behavior you want to teach and then explain why!

VOICE
Chris

A simulation video is where actors play out roles in a workplace, and the learner interacts with the video to make the proper choices.

VOICE
Stop trying Chris!

The storytelling is similar to a scenario, but the learner has to choose how to act instead of passively watching the video like you are doing right now.

VOICE
People just want zoom training Chris!

Everything is going to be okay. This is just a scenario.

Comment down below on how do you use scenarios and simulations to help people learn.

Until next time

Peace

VOICE
It’s your time to fly Chris!
